The abstract expressionism pioneered by Jackson Pollock may look random, but they actually reveal a surprisingly deep knowledge of fluid dynamics and the relationship between gravity and viscosity. Turns out Pollock had a seriously deep intuition for physics. At least, we can only assume t stanley cup deutschland he knowledge was intuitive Pollock didn ;t finish high school, so it seems unlikely that he was intentionally applying any specific scientific principles in his art. But new analysis by a team that includes an art historian, a mathematician, and stanley termohrnek a physicist reveals that this subtle interplay between art and physics is there all the same. Here an example, courtesy of Science NOW, which explains how this is on display in his piece Untitled: In this work, Pollock seems to have adjusted the vis stanley kaffeebecher cosity of his paint to take advantage of coiling instability, in which a stream of thick liquid coils like syrup does on a pancake. By measuring the thickness of the lines and the radius of the coils in the painting, [Andrzej] Herczy艅ski and [L.] Mahadevan were able to estimate the flow rate of Pollock paint as he moved his hand across the canvas. As Pollock increased his lateral speed, the lines he created progressed from loops to cusps to undulating sinusoids. These coils appear infrequently in Pollock works. Cernuschi hypothesizes that Pollock usually tuned the viscosity of his paint to avoid them, because letting the paint spontaneously coil was Wbsh Anatomically correct chairs line up with your bones and organs
If you often find yourself stuck for words in the presence of women, don ;t beat yourself up; we ;ve all been there. But it turns out it not you, it science! Merely thinking about the presence of women makes men stupid. A study from Radboud University in the Netherlands suggests that men start faltering and exhibit a decline in mental performance as soon as they anticipate interacting with women. Interestingly, though, women face no such problems. To work that out, the researchers used something called a Stroop test鈥攁 psychological method to work out how well we process competing information. They carried out the tests both before and after a lip-reading exercise each participant performed via webcam. The participants couldn ;t see anyone during the lip-reading test鈥攂ut were asked to mouth words to a supposed observer of either the same or opposite sex who was watching then. The res stanley quencher ult stanley termosar Females scored the same before and after the lip-reading; men who thought they were being watched by a woman performed far worse. So, despite no direct interaction with a female, stanley cup their cognitive ability dropped significantly. They confirmed the results with another study. This time, participants were merely told they would be performing the same lip-reading exercise. The secret was that the lip-reading test never arrived. Regardless, male test scores plummeted at the mere anticipation of being observed by a female. Again, women displayed no such effects. So w

Body-switching stanley isolierkanne comedy movies have become a big enough genre, in themselves, that these films no longer even need to try and tell the story of two people who switch bodies. That what I took away from The Change-Up, the new movie starring Ryan Reynolds and Jason Bateman. The Change-Up isn ;t all bad, though. Jason Bateman proves, once and for all, that he could read the phone book and it would be funny. There are some cute moments here and there. Here the central problem with The Change-Up: Traditionally, the body-switching movie requires two characters, who are both reasonably fleshed out, to change places. This awesome photo is of a newly discovered deep sea worm, Swima fulgida. Measuring just over an inch long, this little guy lives 9,000 feet underwater and escapes predators by flinging homemade bombs at its enemies. This is one of two new species discovered by researchers at the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute. The creature uses its tiny bristles to swim through the water. Like many deep-sea organisms, it bioluminescent, but not completely you can see a tiny black patch near its mouth. That area is actually the worm gut, and the researchers suspect that it meant to hide the sight of its own bioluminescent prey being digested. These worms also have to worry about larger predators, and it possesses a pretty awesomely ingenious escape mechanism. Could you represent the stages of human consciousness with a diagram In the late 19th century, New Zealand psychologist Benjamin Betts tried to apply mathematics to the problem of visualizing human consciousness. What he produced were striking, almost floral designs that he believed represented the shape of out consciousness for a given activity. Maria Popova of Brain Pickings came across these images in the 1887 book Geometrical psychology, or, The science of representation, an abstract of the theories and diagrams of B. W. Betts, edited by Louisa Cook and available on Open Library. In his metaphysical explorations, Betts attempted stanley mugs to represent the successive stages of the evolution of human consciousness with symbolic mathematical forms stanley cups ; he was quite pleased to find that his mathematical representations frequently resulted in plant-like forms, taking this to mean that he was on the track to some universal representation of consciousness. While Betts methods and illustrations seem ultimately abstract, there is something appealing about his diagrams. Scientists have found out how a famous sunburn-healing enzyme works. The way it zaps DNA damage sounds so science fictional that it seems like something that happened a long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away. Sunburn does a lot of damage to skin. Sometimes the skin is just roughened or splotched. Sometimes the damage develops into full-blown tumors. Although melanoma is easily treatable if caught early, its prevalence has been rising since the seventies. The tumors are caused by solar radiation, which causes the strands of DNA in a person cells to jiggle fast enough that the atoms re-order themselves. These re-ordered parts are called dimers, and they can cause the cells in which they reside to replicate out of control, forming tumors. One regular offender is the cyclobutane pyr stanley tumblers imidine dimer. It a bulbous ring attached to the elegant double helix of the DNA strand.
