Tara K. Menon, who joined the English Department as an assistant professor in the summer, studies speech, conversation, and character in the 19th-century British novel. Menon s forthcoming book, Spoken Words, incorporates big data in her examination of direct speech 鈥?the quoted words of fictional characters.
