Cleveland education officials have announced that paving will be the next major exterior task associated with the construction of Cleveland High School s Raider Arena, which is scheduled to have a grand opening adidas yeezyslide this spring. CLEVELAND, Tenn. - The previously announced April 5 ribbon-cutting for Cleveland High School s Raider Arena has been postponed because of a change in surfacing material for the new gymnasium s elevated running track.Raider Arena will replace the school s historic 50-year-old Raider Dome, which was closed in December 2013 and subsequently demolished.In a recent meeting with the Cleveland City Council, city school board member Charlie Cogdill discussed the Raider Arena project.He assured the council that general contractor TriCon Construction was on schedule and the delayed ribbon-cutting was because of the track surfacing change, which wi af1 ll require a two-week installation and curing period without foot traffic. A new date will be determined by the Board of Education, he said.At its Jan. 28 meeting, the city school board voted 7-0 to install polyurethane material over Raider Arena s concrete mezzanine-level track instead of using an epoxy paint covering as originally planned. Gut, replied each of the dozen children, ages 3 to 6, learning German.They already know the colors, numbers, days of the week and months in German.The children are part of the Extended Language School, a program that uses phonetics to teach language and incorporates aspects of native speakers culture, said Mrs. Hoeferle, founder and director of Montessori Kinder in Cleveland and a native of Germany. When we teach German, we also teach what is it like for a child in Germany. When we teach Spanish we have a teacher from Peru so she brings things from Peru she would enjoy as a child, Mrs. Hoeferle said. It s so much more behind the language, it s the whole culture behind it. The classes mainly focus on the basics such as colors, shapes and greetings. Mrs. Hoeferle uses children s songs and hand motions to teach the class.On a recent Wednesday morning, children switched back and forth from English to German, singing the days of the week, the colors and months.The stanley cup classes are open to children in the community as well as enrolled students. Classes are offered Fridays and Saturday in partnership with Ocoee Multicultural Regional Services.
